How to seal silver leaf on furniture. Looks good but what could I use to subdue the new look or antique wo totally covering the silver making it look older---a stain perhaps that wouldnt remove any silver. Add 2 coats of primer to your furniture and allow to dry. Then go back and apply more glue and leaf to the holes.
Take a piece of wax paper and lay it over the top of the silver leaf sheet ironing over the top of the wax paper with your hand. In the first instance the damage can be caused by surface contamination as in instances where non-gold portions of the leaf oxidize or tarnish thus changing color. Make a glaze using Annie Sloan dark wax and mineral spirits.
Spray the area you want to work on. Wait another 24 hours for sealer to. Mist the whole area but dont spray so much that it drips.
Wait 15 30 minutes for the glue to reach tack. Thanks for any info. I am really happy with how this white and go.
One way to check if your size is ready is to touch the glue area with the back of your knuckle it should feel tacky and not wet. Remove the tissue paper and use a piece of paper towel to gently rub across the top of the gold foil to smooth it out. You are correct in that you do not NEED to seal Rub N Buff.
I hope that helps. The kit I used is called Speedball by Mona Lisa. Pat the top of the tissue paper to make the gold foil stick to the glue.
